All Creatures Animal Caring Society
We are dedicated to helping abandoned, neglected and displaced animals (mostly dogs) find suitable caring, loving homes. We all love dogs and want to find the best human "matches" for them that we can, even if it takes a little longer. Occasionally we are able to place older, sightless or deaf dogs, and in the process, meet incredible human beings who are willing and able to accept a special needs animal.
Description:
The animals we accept most usually come from the following shelters: Oakland, San Francisco, Pinole, Los Banos and occasionally others. We have available at any given time, two - four dogs. They reside in foster homes, when available, or they are placed in a boarding kennel. All available animals are listed on our website: www.allcreaturesmarin.org We prefer not to accept pups, preferring the more needy dogs of age 1-8. Some of these dogs have been placed in "overnight" boxes at shelters without a "name" or a "history". We make certain the dogs receive basic vaccinations and we pay to spay or neuter them as most come to us intact.
History:
Begun in 1995, All Creatures began placing mostly cats. In 1999, there was a shift to dog placements. We do not usually carry out on-site adoptions, choosing instead to provide more personalized service. Step 1 requires applicants to complete an Adopter Profile. If their description seems appropriate for a particular dog, we set up a mutually agreeable appointment to introduce human and dog at the director's "doggy yard" or house. We screen very carefully and do a "drive-by" if the prospect lives in an unfamiliar area. Ours is a slower, more deliberate process than other rescue organizations, but it works for us --- and the dogs who are rarely returned. We welcome foster homes, dog walkers, a volunteer coordinator. If someone is looking for prestige and a "big" name; that's not All Creatures. Our volunteers are roll-up the sleeves kind of people who love all animals, recognize the plight that has befallen many of them and want to get right down to the business of helping them as much as possible.
