The YWCA FiftyPlus Employment Program assists low-income Marin County women over 50 years old to find permanent employment. Services include assessments, resume writing help, interviewing practice, and job development. Job-seekers develop a realistic, action-based job search plan, including strategies to help overcome age discrimination. The FiftyPlus Program is based at the Marin Employment Center in San Rafael which also provides unemployment counseling, career services and excellent workshops on a range of employment topics.

Computer Learning Center: Bridging the Digital Divide

Residents of the YWCA Apartments, Chinatown Youth Program participants, and their families can take introductory computer classes at the Computer Learning Center in the lower level of the YWCA Apartments. The Computer Learning Center offers basic computer skills, internet tutorial, and educational programs in English and Cantonese.

History:
Founded in 1878, YWCA San Francisco & Marin is San Francisco's first and longest running organization working to eliminate racism and empower women and girls. In our early years, the YWCA in San Francisco offered programs including sewing classes, a kindergarten, and residences for women who are homeless or just discharged from the hospital. In the early 1900s, additional residences opened for single, working women, followed by a number of community centers throughout the city of San Francisco. In 1932 our building at 940 Powell Street was built, and is the current home of our San Francisco programs. In 1958, the YWCA established offices in Marin County, and has offered numerous youth, employment, legal, and self-sufficiency programs since that time.
