Description:
RotaCare Free Medical Clinic is opened Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30, serving the underinsured and uninsured in Marin County. Doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, Spanish speaking interpreters and support staff volunteer to treat the patients. The Clinic treats basic primary medical problems such as sprains, infections, rashes and minor injuries. Patients with chronic ailments such as diabetes or hypertension are diagnosed and given initial treatment, then referred to the Marin Community Clinic or local specialists as needed. Urgent conditions are referred to the Emergency Department at Marin General Hospital.
History:
In 1997, the Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise opened the Rota Care Free Clinic at Ritter House. It is one of nine RotaCare clinics in the Bay Area, linked through a network for sharing resources and information. In 2003, the RotaCare Free Clinic moved to the Kaiser Medical office building in downtown San Rafael where clinic services are currently provided.
