Description:
DBSA of California distinguishes itself by innovation and a positive approach to dealing with mental conditions. Speakers give free talks throughout the Bay Area on a regular basis to educate, motivate and inspire those living with mental conditions. Workshops are offered several times a year by leaders in the field. These educational and innovative seminars help to expand the concepts of what is possible for those who have mental conditions and those that love and support them. Volunteers provide valuable assistance in event marketing and production. This can mean anything from sending e-mails or posting flyers to setting up workshop or event space. We also rely on volunteers for a variety of computer work and office assistance. Writing blogs, posting on other web sites, and other internet marketing strategies that help in our outreach and education.
History:
Founded in 2002, the organization produced the first Bipolar In Order workshops, held retreat weekends and support groups for those with mental conditions and their families. Since that time, Tom Wootton has become one of the leading consumer advocates on behalf of those with bipolar and depression. He has innovated programs for County Mental Health in San Bernadino, Riverside, and Orange counties. This year he has originated and started the Advantage Program for those with bipolar and depression.
