Lafayette School Mentoring Project

The Lafayette School Mentoring Project is a non-cost tutoring and mentoring program for K-5 students enrolled in Lafayette Elementary in West Oakland.

At Lafayette Elementary School, kids WANT to be tutored and look forward each week to that special one-on-one time. Each tutor is provided with ongoing training and support to implement individualized teaching strategies for their student. Tutors have the opportunity to attend monthly no-cost field trips with their students thereby extending learning beyond the classroom and developing a mentoring relationship.

Description:
We welcome volunteers looking to partner up with a child as a mentor and/or serve as classroom assistants for a K-5 teacher.

History:
Since it's inception in 1997, the program has served over 1400 students.
