Community Institute for Psychotherapy (CIP)
Community Institute for Psychotherapy (CIP) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt center founded in 1977 to provide quality, affordable mental health services to individuals and families who don't have the resources to pay full fees for professional help. CIP offers a full range of services designed to meet a variety of needs.
Description:
We at CIP believe that through psychotherapy, training, education, and prevention, we have a vital role to play in personal and global change. We believe that the healing of the individual and the healing of the planet are inseparable.
Our therapists help individuals heal from trauma and overcome problems. We help families create caring, nurturing homes and prevent child abuse and neglect. Clients receive support to set and achieve personal goals - to return to school, find a job, or build better relationships - goals that foster self-sufficiency and self-esteem in order to live happier, more fulfilling lives. CIP welcomes individuals and families of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, and physical abilities.
History:
The Community Institute for Psychotherapy,(CIP), is a
nonprofit agency founded in 1977 to provide quality,
affordable counseling and therapy to individuals, families and couples. CIP is uniquely structured to fulfill its dual mission. Each year, 20 to 24 interns provide a full range of psychotherapy services to CIP clients under the direction of more than 70 mental health professionals who donate their time to train and supervise interns. Through reliance on the volunteer services of licensed professionals, CIP is able to provide quality psychotherapy services in an extremely cost efficient manner. Contributed income closes the gap between agency cost and clients' ability to pay so that no one is turned away.
For 30 years, CIP has played an indispensable role in the continuum of service in Marin County. CIP is one of only three agencies in the county providing short- and long-term psychotherapy, and is unique in providing mental health services for the very lowest fee clients (those able to pay only $25 or less per session). In 2007, CIP agency-wide delivered over 7,000 hours of service to more than 650 families, individuals, and children. More than 85% of CIP clients did not have Medi-Cal, and 78% had monthly incomes of $2,500 or less; CIP's services act as a safety-net for those who have literally nowhere else to turn for the help they need.
