Agency Details:
San Rafael Public Library Foundation
The San Rafael Public Library Foundation is dedicated to building, furnishing, and endowing a first-class public library for San Rafael's 21st Century and beyond. The Foundation educates the public about the need for a new public library building and provides a way for all of us in San Rafael to work together to build a facility that will educate, entertain, and inspire us for the next one hundred years.
Description:
Our much-loved Carnegie library lacks shelving that would allow the Library to grow its collection; has insufficient space for children's programs; forces staff and volunteers to work in packed, substandard conditions; and doesn't have adequate public meeting space. The Foundation is working to build a Library that will grow with the community and provide up-to-date technical resources necessary today for an enlightened citizenry.
History:
The Foundation was started in 2004 by a group of San Rafael residents who knew the public library needed to be improved and could see the opportunities that a larger, more modern facility would offer all citizens of San Rafael, especially its young people.
