Access Institute For Psychological Services
Logo

Access Institute is committed to making quality mental health care affordable to San Franciscans, particularly to those individuals and families who fall within the broad gap between those eligible for publicly-funded mental health programs and the more affluent who have adequate insurance or the financial means to afford treatment. Along with providing direct service, Access Institute is committed to providing psychoanalytically-oriented clinical training and supervision to clinicians seeking licensure in a mental health discipline.

Description:
Founded in 2002, Access Institute for Psychological Services is a key member of San Francisco's safety net of health services. We provide high-quality, long-term outpatient mental health care to low-income, culturally-diverse San Franciscans. We offer a highly-regarded clinical training program that helps create the next generation of therapists with a special interest in helping those who have nowhere else to turn. More than 60 highly qualified mental health professionals provide supervision and training to the intern-therapists. They also provide a framework for a larger community of people in the Bay Area who believe that mental health services should be available to everyone.

An independent, non-profit institution, Access Institute is not dependent on government or institutional support, especially important in this climate of cutback and closures. The business model is based on low administrative overhead, and is funded by a combination of patient fees and donations from supporters. There is a tremendous need for these services at this time, in this economic climate. Most of us have someone in our life - in our family, friendship group, among our colleagues - who need psychological services but cannot afford them. Access Institute is one of very few programs serving this broad and diverse group.
