Larkspur Community Association

Agency Details:

Larkspur Community Association
Logo

The Larkspur Community Association's mission is to support the economic health and aesthetic beauty of Magnolia Ave in Historic Down Town Larkspur CA

Description:
The Association produces at least 2 events each year. An annual dinner in March and the Larkspur Flower and Food Festival in the early summer.

History:
In 1986, the late Maryjane Dunstan formed the Larkspur Community Association. The fist Larkspur Flower and Food Festival followed just two years later. The name of the festival was, of course, drawn for the name of the town and the burgeoning gourmet restaurant business in Larkspur. The first two festivals were held on the beautiful Escalles property on Magnolia. Joanie Connor, current president of the Larkspur Community Association, and Sherana Frances were involved from the very beginning organizing and planning with Maryjane. The Festival had food and wine tasting and flower arrangement demonstrations— unique traditions that subsequent festivals have held fast to. In the past, flower arrangement demonstrations were popular attractions. Katherine Eubank and her family ran a floral business for many years in Larkspur and were the resident judges for the festivals Rose competition. This year home gardeners won’t have to worry about competition, they can just show off their garden’s bounty at the Fire Station’s Blossom Gallery. Bring your prize blooms, fruit or veggies by noon to participate!

As its popularity and attendance grew the Festival moved to the street in 1990. Magnolia Ave. was transformed into a community gathering spot. Sub themes such as the International Flavors of Larkspur that featured Dances of the World defined each successive festival.
