Environmental Forum Of Marin
The Environmental Forum of Marin (EFM) is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the environment by educating its Members and the Marin citizenry about local and global ecology and environmental issues. In furtherance of this purpose, EFM conducts programs on environmental issues and hosts public events that offer educational experience for its members and the public so they can influence decision-making.
Description:
The Environmental Forum of Marin is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the quality of our environment through education. Established in 1972, EFM is a leader in environmental education and public service. Our intensive Sustainable Earth Forum is a fall/winter semester program focusing on ecology, human impacts on the environment, resource management, and citizen and community action. It consists of one-day-a-week classes and field trips throughout Marin County. More than 100 people contribute their services to provide this professional and respected environmental education program. Our Sustainable Communities Seminar provides a series of eight Saturday morning workshops, providing a forum to explore the main aspects of sustainability and how sustainable practices can be incorporated at the city, county and municipal levels. Graduation from EFM Sustainable Class Forums qualifies individuals for full membershipin the organization. Graduates of our education programs have gone on to serve environmental causes in both public and private sectors, in capacities such as directors of conservation organizations, representatives on city, county and regional boards and commissions, and elected officials holding local and national public office. The Environmental Forum of Marin web site has been designed with two audiences in mind. Members of the Forum and those in the current education programs can find timely information about the Forum's activities, including education schedules and recent accomplishments of our committees. In addition, it is hoped those unfamiliar with the Forum who are looking for an opportunity to participate in preserving and improving the quality of our environment, for us and for future generations, will find worthwhile information here to help them decide if the Forum may be that opportunity. We also provide links to other like-minded local and national environmental organizations to broaden the viewer's choices.
