Strengthening the many forms of family life, promoting the health and self sufficiency of family members of all ages and cultures, and championing freedom from abuse, violence, and poverty through counseling, education and advocacy.
Description:
FSA is Marin's largest provider of mental health and educational services that include: Child, Adult and Family Counseling; Addiction Recovery Services; Pregnancy and Early Parenting Support; Treatment for Childhood Trauma; Suicide Prevention & Crisis Hotline; Multi-discliplinary Interview Center for Abused Children; Southern Marin Services; Latino Alcohol & Drug Treatment; Parent Aide Home Visiting Services; AgeSong Groups for Elders The agency serves more than 6,000 children, adults and families each year, providing affordable, multi-cultural counseling, education and support services. FSA treasures its more than 200 volunteers who contribute their time, energy and passion to help others. Volunteer opportunities include being trained to work as a crisis hotline counselor, mentoring a young family, providing solace to a family after the loss of a loved on, working in a thriving thrift store, and lending one's expertise and energy on the Board of Trustees.
History:
The organization that was to become FSA began during World War II as a USO ? Travelers Aid Unit. Created to meet the needs of thousands of displaced laborers brought to the Marin City shipyards, workers came from all over the country, bringing with them many of the same problems families struggle with today.
