History:
Marin Literacy has been providing adults assistance with basic reading and writing skills for 20 years. In 1985, the program started with 30 students through the county library system. The Marin County Free Library and the San Rafael Public Library now jointly sponsor MLP, allowing the program to serve all residents of Marin, from Marin City to Tomales. Last year, MLP served 1,250 adult students, and distributed nearly 4,500 free books to individuals and families through its five projects. During the past 21 years, it has helped more than 8,500 adult students with about 6,500 volunteer tutors.
