Women Helping All People
The primary purposes of Women Helping All People are to provide a forum for the education and empowerment of poor and minority citizens of Marin County in general and specifically in public housing in Marin City; to open the horizons of participants and giving them the feeling of competence to expand their lives; to distribute clothing, food, money, and services when appropriate; to create a resident management corporation capable of taking over management of the public housing project in Marin City according to the guidelines outlined by HUD; to create positive role models; to create a network of friends and families to provide support to meet each others' spiritual, material, emotional, and educational needs, that will in turn advance the lifestyle of participants as a whole to create a healthy, drug-free atmosphere in which to live, grow and to foster taking responsibility for the way one lives.
Description:
Women Helping All People's programs are: Regional Occupational Program "Computer Literacy Classes", GED/ESL Tutoring; Safe House After School Tutorial Program; Finders' Keepers' Shop, a free clothing and household good giveaway shop; Private School for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade; agency for Southern Marin for Housing and Critical Family Needs referrals; and counseling.
History:
It began with three women, Mattie Boatman is the founding president, Suzanne Gold and Royce McLemore. Women Helping All People began as a Women Support Group in the front yard of Royce McLemore. It grew from a support group to a vital Family Resource Center in Marin City.
