Agency Details:
Young Imaginations
Our mission is “to place the arts at the core of the curriculum.” We believe that by providing model arts programs, we ensure joyful learning through music and dance that supports the child’s developing language, social/emotional and creative skills.
Description:
Our programs are geared for Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students in Marin and other Bay Area and northern California schools. Our lessons are based on the California State Music and Dance Standards. We provide professional development for our arts specialists and classroom teachers. We also develop curriculum materials, and provide instruments for use in all YI classrooms. We strongly believe that presenting music and dance from other world cultures creates appreciation and tolerance in our children. When children learn in this multidimensional way during their school day, they are experiencing education for lifelong success. We bring our multicultural music and dance programs to approximately 29 Marin schools, reaching over 3,500 children annually. We also teach at about 18 other schools in San Francisco, Sonoma and the East Bay.
History:
Young Imaginations, co-founded in 1987 by Marianne Locke and Alan Scofield, has a 20-year history of providing music and dance classes in Grades Pre-K-8 public schools, aligning arts education with a global perspective, launching model projects to promote learning through the arts.
