Youth in Arts
Logo

Youth in Arts was founded in 1970 by local arts advocates dismayed by diminishing resources available for arts education in California schools. Youth in Arts is now recognized as the leading arts education nonprofit in Marin County. Our mission is to provide the community with high quality experiences and instruction in the visual and performing arts. Youth in Arts’ programs are based upon the belief that a child’s balanced development and education must include the arts. Approximately 85% of the schools in Marin are involved in one or more of our programs.

Description:
• Artists in Schools brings diverse mentor artists into classrooms to teach music, dance, theater, visual and media arts. AIS supports arts integration by providing professional development workshops for teachers and school districts.
• Twilight Afterschool Program provides arts-based activities that build skills and foster personal development.
• VSA arts brings highly skilled mentor artists into special needs classrooms to teach music, dance, drama, visual and media arts. YIA is the Bay Area affiliate for this international organization formerly known as Very Special Arts.
• Youth in Arts Presents student audiences with an annual season of live theatrical productions featuring national and international touring companies. Performances are integrated with school curriculum and teacher study guides are provided.
• Italian Street Painting Festival features the sixteenth-century Italian performance art of street painting at an annual two-day celebration of art, music and cuisine. The festival is held on the second weekend of June in downtown San Rafael.
• ‘Til Dawn award winning teen a capella group provides high-energy youth led performances at schools, businesses and community events.

History:
Started in 1970 Youth in Arts has grown with the demand from the community to provide more art. With a focus on excellence in the instruction and performances we have been identified as the leading arts education organization in Marin.
