Golden Gate Opera exists to inspire and excite the community about the multitude of fine arts found in opera, and especially to motivate youth to participate in fine arts activities so they will have a better life.

Description:
Golden Gate Opera presents full operas at the Marin Center 2000-seat Veterans Memorial Auditorium, fun Aria Parties, free outdoor opera performances and In-School opera enrichment. In 2005 and 2006 Golden Gate Opera brought the return of professional opera to Marin County with performances of three major productions, well attended and well received and acclaimed in reviews. In 2005, Madame Butterfly and Carmen, and in 2006 two Puccini gems, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Golden Gate Opera's outreach has brought more than 50,000 children of the Bay Area the joys of opera with In-School opera assemblies and student performances in the theater. Golden Gate Opera's Technical Department provides original sets, props and costumes and these are also available for rent to other companies.

History:
Golden Gate Opera achieved their non profit in 1996, and has presented full operas and special opera performances in San Francisco and throughout the Bay Area. Our home theatre was the Palace of the Legion of Honor's Florence Gould Theatre until 2005, when our productions moved to the 2000-seat Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Golden Gate Opera Music Director and Conductor of Golden Gate Opera Orchestra is Geoffrey Gallegos. International conductors and directors have led the quality of the company, with International singers as well as rising local talent. In 2003 GGO's Technical Department was established to create original design sets, props and costumes for each production. Since 1997 more than 40,000 children have received Golden Gate Opera's Outreach Opera-tunities in their schools or in the theatre.
