Our volunteer vision is: to have volunteers in each of our Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms for a total of 10 Head Start classrooms and 4 Early Head Start classrooms To have volunteers who can assist teachers in classrooms, help with facility maintenance,carpentry projects, or clerical duties. Volunteers who can provide adults workshops in the areas health, nutrition, mental health, dental, financial literacy, family issues, parenting and literacy. Volunteers who want to be a parent mentor.
Description:
Head Start provides services for children aged birth to 5 years and pregnant women whose family income is at or below the federal poverty guideline. Comprehensive services include: preschool/childcare,home visits, health, dental and mental health screenings and family support.
History:
Head Start was launched by Congress in 1965 as a means of providing comprehensive educational, social, medical, dental, nutritional and mental health services to low-income children and their families. Marin Head Start is the local community agency fulfilling this mandate in Marin.
