Jumpstart Network
Jumpstart Network ESL (English as a Second Language) program provides English language training to non-English speaking Marin and Sonoma County residents. The program has been in existence since 1989 and has served thousands of students. Instruction is free to all students; the only cost is a $20 instructional materials fee.
Description:
Classes meet on Saturdays for ten weeks from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM and focus on vocational English language skills. Volunteers serve from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM, depending on the volunteer's assignment. Breaks include refreshments and opportunity for social interaction. Picnics and field trips occur frequently. We have two sessions in the spring and one in the fall, each with a variety of levels- beginning, intermediate and advanced. No classes during the summer. Jumpstart Network is an outreach of Christ Church North Bay, a non-profit organization, serving people irrespective of nationality, religion or ethnic origin.
History:
Jumpstart Network was founded in 1989 in the Canal District of San Rafael. We had children's meetings, an ESL program,a bilingual English/Spanish evening church service and provided counseling. In 1995 we moved to Novato and began working with seniors and homeless people as well as the ESL program.
