The Cedars' Mission:
The Cedars of Marin offers high quality of life to persons with developmental disabilities. Using an innovative blend of group home living and nationally recognized programs, The Cedars provides a full continuum of care to adults with special needs. We are dedicated to fostering independence, defending dignity and realizing each person's full potential.

Description:
The Cedars of Marin was founded in 1919 as a Home and School for Children with Mental Retardation as their primary diagnosis. It has since become an agency serving only adults with "developmental disabilities". Our program participants may use the Cedars' Residential services and/or a choice of 4 Day Program opportunities. Residentially, The Cedars of Marin maintains its original site in Ross for approximately 50 adults. In addition, 10 satellite homes have been built (mostly in Novato) to enrich the lives of another 55-60 individuals. Their lives are rich aesthetically, culturally, and socially. The joy brought to all through the flow of family members, friends and volunteers cannot be underestimated."Community" plays a large role as well;
all would say, "Marin's a great place to live and work!" Monday through Friday, all residents leave their homes for Day Program opportunities in San Anselmo or San Rafael . The Cedars provides four comprehensive programs serving our own residents as well as others in the community. Our "Community Challenge" participants volunteer in various non-profit settings throughout the county. Those going to the "Victory Center" are there for"Expressive Arts" (their work is widely exhibited). The largest of our programs, "The Textile Art Center", which engages people in weaving, cooking, gardening and working with animals. It's also home to the Cedars' "Senior Program". The woven goods may be purchased at "The Artist Within- A Cedars Gallery", our retail store in downtown San Anselmo. The Cedars.... it's a lot of things to a lot of people! History:
Since 1919 The Cedars of Marin has been serving people with developmental disabilities. Many of our residents have spent the majority of their lives living with their peers at The Cedars; a place where all of their families feel privileged to have found. Despite our expansions, our main "House" and Administrative offices remain on the original Cedars property on a tree laden residential street in Ross. The property is currently "under construction" and still "open for business" ! The Cedars' remarkable renovation will provide individuals with greater personal privacy and independence. We are ever so grateful for those who have and will continue to support our Capital Campaign.There is a desire to provide each person that we serve with a life worth bragging about.
The agency' commitment to "Individuals being Individuals" keeps us expecting more from ourselves. And the beat go on........
