Marin County School Volunteers
Marin County School Volunteers tutor at-risk students in reading, writing, math and science at 42 public schools, grades K-12. Tutoring increases the likelihood that a student will perform at grade level, graduate from high school, and become a productive member of the community.
Description:
Volunteer tutors work one-to-one or with small groups of children, in grades K-12, in a classroom or after-school homework center. We conduct workshops for volunteers on tutoring skills, social emotional strategies, and working with English language learners. Volunteer Coordinators at each of the schools talk with the teachers to identify their needs and to provide support for our volunteers. You can really make a difference in a child's life! Call Jan Sugar at 499-5896 to learn more about becoming a volunteer tutor.
History:
Marin County School Volunteers was founded in 1997, serving five schools with 40 volunteer tutors working with 300 students. Demand for volunteers has grown quickly. By the end of the 2007-2008 school year, 350 Marin County School Volunteer Tutors were helping over 3,500 students in 42 schools.

Overall Experience

I was appalled by the character, outlook and skills of all but one of the several staff members I interacted with.

Having experienced the personalities involved as staff for this organization, I am now truly concerned about what this means about the edu ation of young people in America. posted by bga_cpa on October 29, 2009 |
