Agency Details:
Italian-American Community Services Agency
IACSA provides free social services, as well as information and referral to anyone of Italian heritage. We serve all ages but are geared toward helping senior citizens. We provide social service coordination, translation, home visits, and social and cultural activities for clients and the community.
Description:
Italian American Community Services Agency works to provide advocacy, and to promote, protect and coordinate housing, medical, nutritional and other social services for Italians and Italian-Americans. While many Bay Area Italians have prospered overall, there are many -particularly seniors- who rely on the Agency for service coordination. Our bilingual staff provides a personalized service not available at government agencies to individuals, families and the elderly of Italian descent. Social Services Coordinators assist Italian-Americans by providing them with specific aid in obtaining the services they require. With this support, clients can avoid the tragic sense of despair that can result from being alone, especially in time of need.
History:
In 1916, leading members of the San Francisco Italian community, such as A.P. Giannini, Marco Fontana and Andrea Sbarboro, established the Italian-American Community Services Agency. They had a dream. Successful in their own lives, these leaders wanted to help their Italian brethren.
