Do you have a family member or friend with mental illness? You are not alone. You are not to blame. We are here to help. NAMI Marin is Marin County's voice on mental illness. We are an all-volunteer organization of family members and mental health clients who understand the need for information and support when mental illness affects someone you love.

Description:
In the United States alone, 1 in 4 families is affected by mental illness. Schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, severe depression, severe anxiety, are some of the serious disorders that affect the brain. They are treatable disorders.

We have information on the availability of mental health and other services in Marin County, and advice in accessing them. In Marin County, CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) law enforcement officers are trained to assist in a mental health crisis. NAMI Marin's office is staffed by understanding and informed family volunteers. Our library is stocked with books, periodicals and video tapes on mental illness.
We provide education and support and programs on subjects of interest to families and clients. We provide a 12-week Family-to-Family educational program and an informative NAMI Marin newsletter. . Our meetings and support groups provide the opportunity to talk with others in similar situations and receive information and support All NAMI Marin programs are free and open to the public. Modest membership dues and ever-welcome donations support us.

History:
NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) has more than 1,000 local affiliates dedicated to advocacy, education and support. In the United States alone, 1 in 4 families is affected. Founded in 1979, NAMI is a non-profit organization that provides a nation-wide network of families working to improve research, treatment and understanding as well as advocating for adequate health insurance, housing, employment. We offer opportunities to participate in improving the lives of those with mental illness.
