Coaching is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved with Girls on the Run. Coaches teach a team of 3rd-5th grade girls healthy lifestyle lessons while training them for the culminating Lollipop Run 5k. Who can coach? We encourage enthusiastic, dedicated, and positive women who are available in the after-school hours to apply for coaching. You do NOT need to be an athlete or have experience in coaching. About Girls on the Run of the Bay Area Girls on the Run is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The curriculum covers important issues facing girls today such as why drugs hurt your chances of success, how to make healthy choices, the importance of community, media awareness regarding body image, and self-respect. Program details: • The ten-week fall program begins September 21 and ends December 5 at the Lollipop 5k. • Coaches meet with their team of 10-16 girls twice a week for hour-long practices. • Each program has a minimum of two coaches at every practice, and coaches share the responsibilities equally. • Coaches should anticipate spending 5-6 hours a week preparing for the lessons, coaching, and commuting to and from practice. • Lesson materials are provided by Girls on the Run, and all coaches will attend 4 hours of mandatory training on the curriculum. • Coaches must attend the season-end Lollipop Run with the girls.

About Girls on the Run of the Bay Area Girls on the Run is an after-school running program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade to help build self esteem. We are dedicated to educating and building confidence in young girls by providing quality running programs in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo Counties. Our program combines training for a one-mile or 5K running race with uplifting workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental and physical development. We are not a typical track program as our curriculum contains 20 fun, active lessons dealing with issues such as drugs and alcohol, media images, gossiping, physical health, emotional health, cooperation and community. Our 10-week curriculum meets twice per week for one hour at a school site and is taught by two volunteers who give their time and passion to a group of 16 girls. At the end of the 10-weeks the girls complete their first ever one-mile or 5K distance. Girls on the Run of the Bay Area is a local chapter of a national organization, and a registered 501(c)(3) non profit.
