Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Health and Human Services (Women’s Health) – Health and Wellness Campus. Help pregnant women learn about self-care including exercise and nutrition, as well as labor/childbirth and breastfeeding in this pre-natal group class. Learn, socialize, and bond with an intimate group of women (10 – 12 participants) who are all due about the same time. The group meets monthly, then every two weeks as the due date draws near (9 classes total). These groups allow networking and sharing among women who may otherwise be socially isolated. Warm, supportive class assistants are needed to work with midwives and case managers to: set up the room (exam table, chairs and supplies), disseminate paperwork, and help women take and record their health information (including their weight and blood pressure). This is a good opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience in the health field or in supporting new mothers. Spanish fluency is helpful but not necessary. It is requested that volunteers commit to the entire series of classes. Classes begin in October and are offered Mondays (2-4 p.m.), Wednesdays (9-11 a.m., 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m.) and Thursdays (9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m.). Because of set-up and break-down, this requires a 3-4 hour commitment per class.
