Increase surgical access for low-income, uninsured individuals by assisting the with the recruitment of other specialists or medical centers in any of the six Bay Area Counties. Place phone calls or write letters to prospective surgeons or specialists, encouraging them to volunteer with OA. Help arrange for OA staff to speak at provider meetings or local conferences to promote medical volunteerism.
Required Skills: Be a medical professional. Have a strong affinity for OA’s mission and be enthusiastic about the program. Have familiarity with local hospitals and medical centers. Personal connections with other specialty providers is a plus. With a minimum commitment of 4 – 8 hours per quarter, be in touch with the Program Manager about prospective volunteers. With every new volunteer surgeon or specialist, OA is able to help more patients.
