The LightHouse for the Blind is seeking an experienced volunteer in helping our Lighthouse Industries Program achieve ISO 9000 certification by August, 2010.

The ISO family of standards represents an international consensus on good quality management practices. It consists of standards and guidelines relating to quality management systems and related supporting standards. ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization and is administered by accreditation and certification bodies. Some of the requirements in ISO 9000 include:

-a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business;
-monitoring processes to ensure they are effective;
keeping adequate records;
-checking output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action where necessary;
-regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness; and
-facilitating continual improvement

The International Organization for Standardization (Organisation internationale de normalisation), widely known as ISO (pronounced /ˈaɪsoʊ/), is an international-standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. Founded on 23 February 1947, the organization promulgates worldwide proprietary industrial and commercial standards. It has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.[1] While ISO defines itself as a non-governmental organization, its ability to set standards that often become law, either through treaties or national standards, makes it more powerful than most non-governmental organizations. In practice, ISO acts as a consortium with strong links to governments.

Qualifications required for this position include:

-Familiarity with ISO standardization or similar practices
-Good technical writing skills
-You will need to complete a LH volunteer application
-Livescan fingerprinting required
-Receive minimal vision loss awareness training as you will be working with some visually impaired individuals as well.

We are looking to secure a volunteer for this project by the end of August.
