Make a delightful difference in a child’s life by playing games, singing, and reading stories while parents attend skills class for new mothers with multiple psycho-social stressors. This drop-in support group in San Rafael deals with themes such as healthy relationships, self-care, and setting boundaries. Books, puzzles, and other supplies provided. The ideal candidate is creative, patient, and has education or interest in counseling/psychology. Volunteers for child engagement must speak Spanish and English, have experience with children ages 18 months to 5 years, and be comfortable with groups of up to 10 children. Because of the drop-in nature of the group, volunteers will be invited to participate in the group if no children happen to be present to engage. Schedule: Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mandatory training in confidentiality and HIPAA will be provided, along with LIVESCAN fingerprinting and a TB test. Staff will orient the volunteer to the county’s Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael. Commitment: One Wednesday per month (two or more dates per month preferred) for at least 6 months. Adults only. This opportunity is sponsored by: Civic Center Volunteers
