Want to gain the kind of real-life marketing and event experience employers are looking for? Want to do it by talking to people around the Bay Area, having fun, growing the green economy and helping urban youth get a green-collar summer job? Read on…

Marketing, Event, and Canvassing Interns Needed!

Rising Sun Energy Center, a 501(c) 3 organization, seeks interns to work closely with Rising Sun staff on Events and Marketing Projects. Rising Sun’s central office is in downtown Berkeley but we attend events and serve communities throughout the East and North Bay.

Please note: These are unpaid internships. Rising Sun is happy to provide documentation for earning course credit, community service, etc.

ABOUT RISING SUN
Since 2000, Rising Sun Energy Center (www.risingsunenergy.org) has provided energy-efficiency services and education to communities in the East Bay and Marin while providing training and employment opportunities to youth and adults. We provide our services through innovative community service programs that integrate workforce development with low-or-no-cost residential energy efficiency services. Over the past nine years Rising Sun has trained more than 550 youth and adults and provided more than 12,000 homes with energy and water saving measures, carbon footprint reduction strategies, and advice on further energy savings.

Please see our website for more details, especially on the specifics of the California Youth Energy Services program, the Rising Sun program with which this internship is primarily concerned.

INTERNSHIP DETAILS
Interns’ duties will include the following:

• Event representation (80%): We love the Bay Area for the huge number of weekend community events that happen each spring and summer. Increasingly, many of these events are “green” or “green-themed”. As a community-based organization which providies free energy-saving material to local residents through our CYES program, we rely on all of these events, “green” or not, to get our name out in the community. Our interns help out by setting up our table or booth, passing out flyers, signing folks up for our free services, recruiting youth who are looking for a summer job. and using the opportunity to stay connected to the communities we serve. Of course, they also get to enjoy the sun, food, music, atmosphere, and the pleasure of meeting new people.
• Canvassing (10%): To be successful each year, our flagship program, CYES, relies heavily on community outreach. CYES ‘green house calls’ are free, but the community will never know about them unless we spread the word! In some areas, the best way to do this is to knock on doors out in the community.
• Marketing Projects (10%): As the spring and summer progress, interns will assist with various office-based marketing projects under the close direction of the Rising Sun Outreach Manager.
