Canal Family Support Program

The Canal Family Support Program / Kid’s Club After School program provides support to at-risk youth ages 6 to 12 years old. This after-school program consists of homework assistance, tutoring in reading, social skills development, special activities, events, and nutritious snacks. Most of the 120 children served each year by the Canal Family Support Program are from families in which both parents work. Employment, ESL and housing referral assistance are also provided to the families of the children who are enrolled in the program. A Summer Day Camp program is offered in June, July, and August.

Time Commitment: Assistance is needed on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm; Wednesdays 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Ideally, we would like volunteers to commit to one day per week, but will consider once or twice a month.

Volunteers will be sufficiently oriented at the program before tutoring with the children. Volunteers are required to complete the fingerprinting process before placement can take place (Catholic Charities CYO covers the cost of the fingerprinting process).
