The American Cancer Society is starting an important tobacco tax signature gathering campaign. We've joined the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association to put the California Cancer Research Act on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot. This act would increase tobacco taxes by $1.00 a pack. The revenue from this tax - more than $500 million a year, will help California's research community make advances in the detection, treatment, prevention and cure of cancer, heart disease, stroke, emphysema and other smoking-related illnesses.
Training will be provided and all volunteers need to either be a voter or qualified to register to vote in the state of California. Volunteers will be asked to work in 3 hour shifts at a local store and will be working in pairs. We encourage you to recruit family and friends to join the campaign!
