Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on December 22, 2009 |
Tom had been in the hospital for over two weeks. Because he was diabetic and paralyzed from the waist down, this was not his first experience with hospitals. However, there was something new this time. He wrote to us saying: "Your service is transforming my stay here at Marin General Hospital. I think I'd have gone nuts without the support of the Massage Team, the visits from the harpist and the opportunity to relax with Guided Imagery. Emotionally I feel lots better and it even helps my pain and insomnia. I am so grateful." The Institute for Health and Healing administers an integrative medicine program that is a model for hospitals nationwide. Volunteer with the Massage Team at Marin General and experience the joy of bringing ease and solace to those in need. We've all heard of giving and then receiving more in return. This experience occurs again and again for our team members. There is nothing abstract about it. The experience is immediate and tangible. In addition to personal and professional growth, you will gain valuable knowledge working in a medical setting and gain a deeper understanding of how complementary modalities such as massage enhance and fit with mainstream medicine. There is a growing movement and awareness in health care of the critical importance of treating the whole person as opposed to only addressing the symptoms of disease. Be part of the positive shift in our health consciousness. Thank you for your time. We look forward to hearing from you.
We are seeking Massage Therapists certified by the California Massage Therapy Council, at the level of CMT, who wish to serve the community while gaining valuable knowledge and experience in the field of hospital based massage. The position requires maturity and a 100 hour commitment. We provide approximately 20-25 hours of one-on-one hospital orientation and training in policies, procedures and safety. We also provide and require TB testing and a basic blood screening for your protection and the safety of our patients. This service is free.
