The Marine Mammal Center’s Education Department is seeking volunteers for its hospital and education facility in the Marin Headlands in Sausalito, California. Volunteers greet visitors, talk with the public and/or lead tours about our seal and sea lion patients. Our volunteers inspire visitors to better appreciate the ocean and help protect the animals that live in it. Volunteer assignments include indoor and outdoor shifts in varying weather conditions. After training, education volunteers work a minimum of 12 hours each month. Join us for a series of four training classes on Wednesdays (4/7, 4/14, 4/21 and 4/28) OR Saturdays (4/10, 4/17, 4/24 and 5/1). During the training, volunteers will learn about marine mammal conservation with a focus on the animals we rehabilitate. Registration and training fee required. Call (415) 289-7361 or email edu@tmmc.org for more information and to register. About The Marine Mammal Center: The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary hospital, research and educational center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals - primarily California sea lions, elephant seals and harbor seals - and to the study of their health. Since 1975, the Center has been headquartered in the Marin Headlands, within the Golden Gate National Parks, and has rescued and treated more than 15,000 marine mammals. The Center’s newly rebuilt headquarters in Sausalito gives visitors the unique opportunity to learn about marine mammals through viewing areas and educational exhibits. The hospital is open to the public daily from 10am to 5pm except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Visit www.MarineMammalCenter.org for more information and to sign up for the Center’s monthly e-Newsletter.
Education volunteers must register before the training and pay a $50 training fee (fee can be reduced or waived if it's a hardship). Training classes meet four times on either Wednesdays OR Saturdays in April 2010; attendance is required. Education volunteers work a minimum of twelve hours each month for at least one year after the training. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
