The Marine Mammal Center’s Education Department is seeking docent volunteers for its newly renovated hospital and educational center in the Marin Headlands in Sausalito, California. Education volunteers will greet visitors, lead tours and talk to the public about our work in rescuing and treating seal and sea lion patients. Our volunteers inspire visitors to better appreciate the ocean and the animals that live in it. Inside and outside positions are available. This is a unique and fun opportunity since our new facility was recently completed and now open to the public. A series of four training classes starts September 12. During the training, you will learn how to engage visitors and explain about marine mammal conservation with a focus on the animals we rehabilitate. Registration and training fee required. Call (415) 289-7361 or email edu@tmmc.org for more details, a schedule of classes and to register. About The Marine Mammal Center: The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary hospital, research and educational center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals - primarily California sea lions, elephant seals and harbor seals - and to the study of their health. Since 1975, the Center has been headquartered in the Marin Headlands, within the Golden Gate National Parks and has rescued and treated more than 14,000 marine mammals. After four years of construction and renovation, the public is now able to visit the Center’s headquarters in Sausalito, which includes animal rehabilitation viewing areas and educational exhibits. For more information, visit www.marinemammalcenter.org.
Education volunteers must register before the training and pay a $50 training fee (fee can be reduced or waived if it's a hardship). Training classes meet a total of four times on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays; attendance is required. Education volunteers must work at least eight hours each month for at least one year after training. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
